Bronze Wood & Leather, inspired by Jo Malone London Bronze Wood & Leather Cologne Intense (2018)

Grapefruit gives a brief flash of citrus before juniper takes over, resinous and reminiscent of gin. Smoke builds quickly behind it, the kind that clings to a jacket after an evening by a fire. Leather then settles in, smooth rather than rough, with vetiver adding an earthy, rooty dryness. The result is dark but controlled, with no sugar anywhere.

About the original

This scent belongs to Jo Malone's Cologne Intense collection. One fragrance database dates it to late 2018, while its own summary gives 2019. Availability varies by market: it is sold on the US site and as a Selfridges exclusive in the UK, but it is absent from the UK Cologne Intense page, and it has reportedly disappeared from shelves in parts of the EU.

Who it suits

Leather lovers who dislike the sweet, suede-and-vanilla style will find this drier and smokier. It is often described as leaning masculine. With smoke this prominent in the heart, a short wear test makes sense if incense or tar notes usually bother you.
