Bronze Goddess Capri, inspired by Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess Capri (2012)

Capri starts tart: mandarin and petitgrain (the green, slightly bitter note distilled from orange-tree leaves and twigs) with a tang of cassis, or blackcurrant. The flowers in the middle are blended rather than distinct, jasmine, peony and lily-of-the-valley merging into one clean bouquet. The base is warm and dry rather than sticky, with amber and vanilla held in check by musk and patchouli. Perfume writers have called it a solar oriental, meaning sun and skin rendered through amber rather than coconut.

About the original

Harry Fremont created Bronze Goddess Capri for Estée Lauder's summer 2012 collection, a 100 ml Eau Fraîche sold as a limited edition. Unlike the original Bronze Goddess, it leaves out coconut and tropical flowers. Now Smell This described it as refined. It was produced for that summer only.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Estée Lauder stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Compared with the coconut-led original, Capri is drier and more composed, a summer scent that does not shout beach. The amber-vanilla base gives it some richness, so it may feel too heavy for anyone wanting pure citrus freshness.
