Baraonda

Baraonda, inspired by Nasomatto Baraonda (2016)

Baraonda leads with whiskey, a mellow, woody spirit note rather than a sweet liqueur. According to fragrance references it moves fairly quickly into musk, ambrette (a plant seed with a musky, faintly pear-like smell) and rose. Ambroxan, a modern amber material, gives the base a transparent, mineral glow in place of heavy resin. The overall shape is spare: a short burst of spirit, then a musky, ambery base with a skin-like quality.

About the original

Released in 2016, Baraonda came two years after Blamage, which had been presented at launch as the end of the Nasomatto project, according to a review of the scent. Alessandro Gualtieri is behind it, as with every Nasomatto. Its cap combines Portuguese and Italian cork, a detail the brand highlights. Note lists come from databases and retailers, since the house gives none.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Nasomatto stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Opinion on Baraonda is split. Some wearers find the musky drydown comforting, while others feel it turns thin once the whiskey fades. It rewards a buyer who enjoys quiet musks more than one chasing a big boozy effect.

Does Baraonda smell of alcohol all the way through?

No. The whiskey accord leads and fades fairly early, leaving musk, ambrette, rose and ambroxan.

How is Baraonda different from Absinth?

Absinth is bitter, herbal and earthy around wormwood. Baraonda starts boozy and then turns musky and ambery, with rose in the background.
