Candy Gloss, inspired by Prada Candy Gloss (2017)

Cherry is the first thing you notice, and it arrives sour before it turns sugary, with cassis adding a darker berry tang. Peach and orange blossom then round off the edges so the fruit feels glazed. Underneath, almond and heliotrope (a flower that smells of marzipan and baby powder) push the scent towards a cherry bakewell effect. The finish is vanilla and musk, sweet and slightly powdery.

About the original

Prada released Candy Gloss in spring 2017 as the fifth fragrance in the Candy collection that began in 2011. Daniela Andrier is credited as its perfumer. Prada presented it as a sensual sorbet, sweet as acid cherry and sunny as orange blossom, and it was sold as an eau de toilette. Candy Gloss Pop and the other Candy flankers are different scents, and Prada's own Candy range now lists only the original Candy Eau de Parfum.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Prada stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Anyone who enjoys fruity gourmands on a spring afternoon will find it easy to wear, and the sorbet idea suits casual summer days too. It is unashamedly sweet. Opinion is split on the cherry, which some wearers find artificial, and those who dislike powdery drydowns may find the heliotrope too much.

Sour cherry and cassis open it with a puckering, lip-gloss tartness.

Peach brings a rounder fruit to the heart, while rose and orange blossom add a light floral lift without making it a bouquet.

Almond, vanilla and benzoin form the base, with heliotrope giving a powdery, marzipan edge and musk keeping it close to the skin.

Is Prada Candy Gloss discontinued?

It no longer appears in Prada's Candy range, which currently shows only the original Candy Eau de Parfum. Prada has not published a formal statement.

How is Candy Gloss different from the original Prada Candy?

The original centres on caramel and benzoin. Candy Gloss puts tart cherry first and rests on almond and vanilla, so it reads fruitier and lighter.

Does it smell of almond?

Yes. Almond and heliotrope give the base a marzipan quality, which is where much of the sweetness comes from.

Is Prada Candy Gloss coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Prada that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
