Casmir arrived in 1992 as Chopard’s very first fragrance launch, composed by Michel Almairac when the Swiss jeweller decided to expand into perfumery. The brief was opulent oriental in the great 1990s tradition: peach and apricot at the opening, carnation and cinnamon through the heart, and a base of tonka bean, vanilla, benzoin, and amber. It became one of the most successful oriental feminines of its era and spawned several flankers over the years. Chopard has since retired Casmir from active production, and original bottles now trade at premium prices through resale channels. How It Smells

The opening is rich and slightly fruity, peach and apricot leading with mandarin and black currant adding sparkle to the early phase. Within fifteen minutes the spicy floral heart deepens: carnation takes a leading role with its characteristic clove-like peppery floral character, cinnamon adds warm spice, and a soft mimosa contributes powdered yellow floral support. The base is where Casmir shows its 1990s opulence. Tonka bean provides soft warm sweetness, vanilla adds rounded depth, benzoin and labdanum contribute resinous balsamic warmth, and amber wraps the composition in luminous heat. It reads luxurious and confident, decidedly evening rather than daytime, in the great oriental tradition of its era.

Is the original really discontinued?
Yes. Chopard has pruned its fragrance catalogue significantly over the years and Casmir is no longer in active production. Resale platforms still circulate sealed bottles but freshness and authenticity vary, and prices have climbed considerably.

Is this style still wearable today?
It is classical rather than dated. If you enjoy the opulent oriental tradition of the 1980s and 1990s (Opium, Cinnabar, Samsara), Casmir fits naturally. If you only wear light modern compositions, it may read assertive.

Best season and occasion?
Autumn and winter, evenings especially. The richness wants cooler weather and lower light. Daytime wear is possible with restraint, but Casmir wants the occasions that justify a bit of presence.

How is the longevity?
Excellent. Ten to twelve hours at our 40 percent oil concentration, with the amber benzoin drydown lingering on clothing well into the next day. Ambery orientals are among the longest lasting compositions in perfumery.
