Tuscany Per Donna, inspired by Aramis Tuscany Per Donna (1992)

Plum and peach give the first minutes a ripe, almost jammy roundness, cut by grapefruit, bergamot and a grassy green edge. The heart is dense and heady: carnation adds a clove-like spice, ylang-ylang a buttery note, and jasmine, rose and honeysuckle fill out the middle. Underneath sits styrax, a balsamic resin with a faintly leathery sweetness, alongside amber, vanilla and sandalwood. The overall impression is plush and golden.

About the original

Kenneth Ruocco of Firmenich composed Tuscany Per Donna in 1992 for Aramis, a house within the Estée Lauder Companies. The fragrance later moved to the Estée Lauder name and now sits in The House of Estée Lauder collection, which the brand classes as a floral amber. The pyramid described here is the original Aramis one; Estée Lauder's current list is shorter and mentions Mediterranean herbs and peony. Long-time wearers describe the current formula as lighter and less deep than the Aramis original.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Aramis (now sold under Estée Lauder) stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Women who grew up with big nineties florals will recognise the style straight away. It wears richly, with noticeable sweetness from the fruit and vanilla. If dense white flowers or a powdery finish tend to overwhelm you, try it on skin before committing.

It opens on plum and peach with mandarin, grapefruit and bergamot, plus hyacinth and a cut-grass note that stops the fruit turning syrupy.

The floral heart is crowded: carnation and ylang-ylang lead, with jasmine, orange blossom, rose, violet, honeysuckle and lily-of-the-valley layered behind them.

The base settles on sandalwood and cedar, rounded by amber, vanilla and musk, with styrax giving it a resinous, slightly balsamic depth.

Is Tuscany Per Donna by Aramis or Estée Lauder?

Both, at different times. It launched under Aramis in 1992 and is now sold under the Estée Lauder name; both belong to the same group.

Can you still buy Tuscany Per Donna from the brand?

Yes. Estée Lauder still sells it in The House of Estée Lauder collection, although the current formula is reported to be lighter than the vintage Aramis version.

No. Tuscany Per Uomo is a separate men's fragrance; this is the women's Tuscany Per Donna, a floral amber.
