Cinema, inspired by Yves Saint Laurent Cinéma (2004)

Cinéma starts with almond blossom, which smells powdery and faintly nutty, lifted by clementine and the watery floral note of cyclamen. Jasmine and peony fill out the heart, with amaryllis lending a smooth, lily-like quality. None of the flowers dominates; they blend into a rounded, glossy floral. As it dries, vanilla, amber and benzoin wrap everything in a rich, creamy layer with a powdery edge.

About the original

Jacques Cavallier composed Cinéma for Yves Saint Laurent in 2004. Over the following years YSL issued several limited summer flankers, including Festival d'Été and Scénario d'Été. Fragrance references record the original as withdrawn and list a reworked Cinéma from 2024 with a different note list. The 2004 version is generally described as fuller and creamier, and it is that original which this scent follows.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Yves Saint Laurent stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Cinéma has a dressed-up, creamy character rather than a casual one. It is sweet and powdery in the drydown, so anyone who wants a crisp or green floral may find it too plush.

Is YSL Cinéma discontinued?

The original 2004 Cinéma has gone from YSL's official sites and is recorded as withdrawn. A reworked Cinéma was released in 2024 with different notes.

It is inspired by the original 2004 eau de parfum, with almond blossom, jasmine, amaryllis and a vanilla-amber base.

How sweet is Cinéma?

Moderately. The opening is floral and powdery, but the vanilla and amber base becomes noticeably sweet and creamy as it dries down.
