Essence Aromatique, inspired by Bottega Veneta Essence Aromatique (2014)

Bergamot meets coriander seed in a crisp, herbal opening, the coriander smelling green, spicy and faintly lemony. Within minutes a pale white rose appears, and tonka bean (an almond-and-hay sweetness) joins vanilla to give it a quiet, ambery depth. Sandalwood and patchouli settle underneath without ever taking over. As an eau de cologne, the original was light in weight throughout.

About the original

Michel Almairac composed Essence Aromatique for Bottega Veneta, and it launched in February 2014 within the women's line. The brand called it 'fresh yet floral, with an aromatic facet', and fragrance references class it as leaning unisex. Pour Homme Essence Aromatique is a different scent: a separate 2016 men's fragrance built on citrus, pine and cedar. Bottega Veneta discontinued its Coty-era collection in 2021, and an entirely new range has since replaced it.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Bottega Veneta stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Its easy, unforced character makes it work for men and women alike. The weight is light, and the sweetness stays in the background. Those who need a scent with a dense, heavy base may find it too gentle.

Bergamot and coriander open together, brisk and herbal in the manner of a classic eau de cologne.

The heart pairs white rose with tonka bean and vanilla, which round off the citrus and add a mellow, slightly powdery sweetness.

Sandalwood and patchouli close it, smooth and woody, with the patchouli kept in check.

Is this the women's Essence Aromatique or the Pour Homme?

It is based on the 2014 Essence Aromatique from the women's line. Pour Homme Essence Aromatique (2016) is a different, pine-led scent.

Can men wear it?

Yes. Although it was released in the women's line, fragrance references class it as unisex-leaning, thanks to the herbal citrus opening and woody base.

Is Bottega Veneta Essence Aromatique discontinued?

Yes. It was part of the range Bottega Veneta stopped producing in 2021, before the brand relaunched its fragrances in 2024.
