Alien Essence Absolue, inspired by Mugler Alien Essence Absolue (2012)

Jasmine arrives at full strength, radiant and white-floral. Orris root, with its cool, powdery violet-like tone, and a smooth cashmere wood accord gradually quieten it. Vanilla grows richer as the heart develops. The base is where it differs most from the original: incense and myrrh, a bittersweet resin, give a smoky, almost churchlike depth over white amber.

About the original

Mugler launched Alien Essence Absolue in summer 2012 as an eau de parfum intense flanker of Alien (2005), created by Pierre Aulas. The brand called it richly intense, sensual, deep and mysterious. It is a different fragrance from Alien Absolu, Alien Extraordinaire and Alien Essence de Parfum. Mugler's women's range no longer lists it, and it has been withdrawn, according to reports.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Mugler stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Evening wear in the colder months is the obvious setting. Fans of Alien who want more smoke and resin will find the most to like. The jasmine opening is powerful and the incense persistent, so it is not a scent for people who prefer something discreet.

Is Mugler Alien Essence Absolue discontinued?

It no longer appears in Mugler's women's range, and reports say it has been withdrawn.

Is it the same as Alien Absolu?

No. Alien Essence Absolue (2012) is a separate flanker with an incense and myrrh base.

How smoky is it?

Noticeably, in the drydown. Incense and myrrh give a resinous smoke beneath the vanilla.

Is Mugler Alien Essence Absolue coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Mugler that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
