Classique Essence De Parfum, inspired by Jean Paul Gaultier Classique Essence de Parfum (2016)

The opening is fresh and spicy: ginger with tangerine and a fizz of aldehydes. Orange blossom and jasmine sambac then form a lush white-floral centre. The base turns dessert-like, with whipped cream, vanilla and benzoin (a balsamic resin with a vanilla-caramel tone) over cashmere wood. It ends sweet and enveloping, but the ginger keeps the start lively.

About the original

Daphné Bugey of Firmenich composed Classique Essence de Parfum, launched in August 2016 alongside Le Male Essence de Parfum and reaching UK counters by 2017. It was a flanker of Classique (1993), sold in 50 and 100 ml. It no longer appears in the Classique range on Jean Paul Gaultier's worldwide, French or US sites, and retailers describe it as discontinued.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Jean Paul Gaultier stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Gourmand fans will find plenty here, since whipped cream and vanilla carry most of the wear. It is sweet and full-bodied, with vanilla and white flowers carrying the base.
