Costa Azzurra, inspired by Tom Ford Costa Azzurra (2014)

Costa Azzurra smells like a Mediterranean shoreline seen through wood rather than water. Lemon opens it, but cypress oil sits right beside it, giving an evergreen bitterness. As it settles, oak and a driftwood accord make the centre weathered, a little like sun-bleached timber. Salty amber and cistus, a resin from the rock rose shrub, finish it on a mineral, faintly leathery note.

About the original

Announced in May 2014 alongside Mandarino di Amalfi, Costa Azzurra joined the Private Blend range as an eau de parfum. It has since moved: Tom Ford now lists it among its Signature fragrances. The brand calls it an aromatic fougère inspired by a Mediterranean escape. A Costa Azzurra Acqua flanker and a Costa Azzurra Parfum also exist as separate products.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Tom Ford stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Wood comes first and freshness second: the lemon and evergreen notes sit over a body of oak, driftwood and salty amber. Salt and cistus give it a rough, mineral texture that people expecting a bright citrus cologne may not want. Marketed as unisex, it has no real sweetness.
