Essenza, inspired by Roberto Cavalli Essenza (2015)

Only three notes are given for Essenza, and each is easy to pick out. Bitter almond oil opens it with a nutty, cherry-stone note, the smell of marzipan before it is sweetened. Orange blossom adds a honeyed white-floral middle, and vanilla takes it into a full, rounded base. The overall effect is a floral oriental with a pronounced almond-vanilla sweetness.

About the original

Louise Turner is credited with this 2015 flanker of the 2012 Roberto Cavalli women's eau de parfum, later known as Signature. Now Smell This reported its arrival in September 2015 via Dubai Duty Free. The brand's copy called it 'intense, sophisticated and opulent'. Essenza no longer appears on Roberto Cavalli's own fragrance pages, and El Corte Inglés lists it as sold out. For context, the house moved its fragrance licence from Coty to Inter Parfums in 2023, and Essenza does not feature in the new licensee's coverage.

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Roberto Cavalli stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Almond is the deciding factor. Enjoy the smell of marzipan or Bakewell tart and this is easy to like; if almond reminds you of glue or cough syrup, it will not win you over.
