Essenza Del Tempo, inspired by Trussardi Essenza del Tempo (2008)

Bergamot meets carrot seed at the top, an unusual pairing: carrot seed smells earthy and slightly rooty, and it gives the citrus a dry undertone. Ambrette seed adds a musky, plant-based softness. Ginger and balsamic vinegar build a spicy, tangy aromatic heart, and a quiet coffee note follows. Iris and amber turn the base powdery, while cedar takes on an incense-like, spiced dryness.

About the original

Trussardi announced Essenza del Tempo in June 2008 as a unisex eau de toilette, composed by Sophie Labbé of IFF. The concept drew on Italy's 'slow' movement, treating time itself as a luxury. Its bottle was wrapped with a leather strap, and the line extended to body wash, lotion and aftershave balm. Although the brand presented it for both sexes, one detailed review found it leaned masculine.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Trussardi stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Unisex by design, it sits closer to a woody aromatic than a feminine floral, and flowers play only a minor part. The coffee and vinegar facets make it savoury rather than sweet, which will not suit everyone. That same review judged it suitable all year and for casual wear.

Ginger and balsamic vinegar shape the heart, an aromatic and faintly sour combination, with flowers in the background and a subtle thread of coffee.

Iris and amber make the drydown powdery, and cedar adds a spicy woodiness that recalls incense.

Is Essenza del Tempo for women or men?

Trussardi launched it as unisex in 2008. We list it with our women's perfumes, but it suits men equally, and its character leans woody rather than floral.

Does it really smell of vinegar?

Balsamic vinegar is one of the listed heart notes, paired with ginger to give an aromatic, faintly sour edge. Coffee and iris sit around it, so it is one facet among several.
