Modern Muse Nuit, inspired by Estée Lauder Modern Muse Nuit (2016)

Nuit begins with a short burst of cassis and mandarin, more tangy than sweet. Within minutes the flowers take over: jasmine and jasmine sambac, with chamomile adding a dry, herbal note and heliotrope bringing its almond-like powder. The second half is where it earns the night label. Sandalwood and tonka build a plush base, sweetened by vanilla, with amber and musk giving it a skin-like glow.

About the original

Estée Lauder released Nuit in September 2016 as the evening counterpart to Modern Muse (2013), in 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum. Kendall Jenner fronted it, as she had Le Rouge the year before, and it arrived alongside a matching make-up line. The press material also named Clearwood, a modern patchouli-like woody material, in the base. Only the original Modern Muse remains on the brand's US collection page, and Nuit itself has been dropped from the brand's listings.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Estée Lauder stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Built for evenings, as the brand intended, it is comforting rather than heavy for wearers who enjoy vanilla and powder. If heliotrope's almond-powder note or a sweet base puts you off, a fresher floral will suit better.

Cassis and mandarin orange give a brief, tangy start.

The heart is jasmine and jasmine sambac with chamomile and heliotrope, herbal at first and then powdery, with a faint almond tone.

Sandalwood and tonka bean dominate the drydown, sweetened by vanilla and grounded by patchouli, with amber and musk underneath.

Is Modern Muse Nuit discontinued?

Estée Lauder no longer lists it, only the original Modern Muse remains on its US page, and since 2022 it has been reported as unavailable.

How does Nuit differ from Le Rouge?

Nuit is powdery and vanilla-based, built on jasmine and heliotrope. Le Rouge is a fruity, spiced rose with berries and saffron.

What does heliotrope smell like?

A powdery floral note with an almond and vanilla tone, often likened to marzipan.

Is Estée Lauder Modern Muse Nuit coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Estée Lauder that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
