Angel Nova, inspired by Mugler Angel Nova (2020)

Angel Nova leads with raspberry, used in a deliberately heavy dose, while lychee adds a sweet, slightly watery fruitiness alongside it. A damask rose comes through once the fruit settles, keeping the heart floral rather than sugary. Underneath sits akigalawood, a patchouli-derived material with a peppery, faintly oud-like edge, rounded off by the resinous sweetness of benzoin.

About the original

Mugler released Angel Nova in June 2020 as a flanker to Angel, the 1992 gourmand. Three perfumers worked on it: Quentin Bisch, Louise Turner and Sonia Constant. The brand says its rose was obtained through dual extraction combined with biotechnology. Where Angel is built on dense sweetness, Nova moves the line towards a fruity, floral and woody structure, presented in a refillable bottle.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Mugler stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Fans of fruity florals who find the original Angel too heavy are the natural audience here. The opening is distinctly sweet and fruit-led, so it reads young and playful before the wood takes over. Rose lovers who dislike jammy notes may find the raspberry a lot at first.

Raspberry dominates the first minutes, tart and vivid, with lychee giving it a rosewater-like sweetness.

The damask rose rises as the fruit fades. It stays fresh and petal-like rather than powdery.

The drydown turns woody: akigalawood brings a dry, peppery facet and benzoin a vanilla-like resin.

How is Angel Nova different from the original Angel?

Angel (1992) is a dense gourmand built around sweetness. Angel Nova keeps the name but swaps that for raspberry, lychee and rose over a woody base, so it smells fruitier and lighter.

The opening is sweet and fruity, mainly from raspberry and lychee. It becomes drier once the akigalawood comes through.
