L'Homme Intense

L'Homme Intense, inspired by Yves Saint Laurent L'Homme Parfum Intense (2013)

Lemon, bergamot and black pepper make a brisk, peppery start. Orange blossom and violet leaf follow; the violet leaf has a green, slightly cucumber-like coolness that keeps the flowers from going sweet. Artemisia, a bitter herb related to wormwood, sits in the background. Underneath, suede and leather join ambergris, benzoin and cedar, so the base is darker and more resinous than the opening suggests.

About the original

Anne Flipo and Dominique Ropion created L'Homme Parfum Intense, launched in August 2013 as a flanker to L'Homme from 2006. It was presented as a deeper, more sophisticated reading of the original and, according to fragrance databases, was later relabelled L'Homme L'Intense. YSL's UK, French and US sites now carry only L'Homme EDT, EDP and Le Parfum, and the old UK product page has been removed. L'Homme Le Parfum (2020) is a separate fragrance, and La Nuit de L'Homme L'Intense belongs to another line.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Yves Saint Laurent stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Where the original L'Homme is fresh and clean, this one puts amber and leather ahead of citrus. It reads as polished and grown-up rather than sporty. Leather and ambergris give the drydown weight, which may feel dense to a buyer used to the lighter L'Homme EDT.

L'Homme Parfum Intense from 2013, later relabelled L'Homme L'Intense. It is not L'Homme Le Parfum (2020) or La Nuit de L'Homme L'Intense.

Is YSL L'Homme Intense discontinued?

It no longer appears in YSL's UK, French or US ranges, and its former UK product page has been removed. YSL has not commented publicly.

How does it compare with the original L'Homme?

It keeps a citrus and pepper opening but adds suede, leather and ambergris, so it is darker and less fresh than the 2006 L'Homme.

Is Yves Saint Laurent L'Homme Intense coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Yves Saint Laurent that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
