Ultraviolet, inspired by Paco Rabanne Ultraviolet Man (2001)

Mint arrives first, cool and almost icy, with black pepper and coriander running alongside it. Mandarin and blackcurrant add a fruity note alongside it. Below that the scent turns dry and faintly powdery, settling on ambergris, patchouli, oakmoss and vetiver. The overall effect is cool on top and quietly sweet underneath.

About the original

Ultraviolet Man is the men's counterpart to Paco Rabanne's women's Ultraviolet from 1999; the men's version is generally dated to 2001. Rabanne classes it as a woody amber and describes its spray bottle as a 'gun' gesture. Jacques Cavallier is the perfumer usually named for it. The brand, now renamed Rabanne, still lists it, although several retailers have stopped stocking it.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Paco Rabanne (now Rabanne) stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

A man who finds most fresh colognes too citrusy will get more from this cool mint and amber pairing. The drydown is dry and powdery with some sweetness, so anyone expecting a clean aquatic may find it unexpectedly soft and dusty.

The opening is mint above all, with black pepper and coriander giving it a spicy edge.

Mandarin and blackcurrant fill out the heart with a light fruitiness, while patchouli starts to show through.

It finishes on ambergris, oakmoss and vetiver: dry, woody and a little powdery.

Is this the men's or the women's Ultraviolet?

This page is the men's Ultraviolet Man. The women's Ultraviolet (1999) is a different scent with chilli pepper, osmanthus and musk, and we make it separately.

Does Ultraviolet Man smell fresh or sweet?

Both, in sequence. The mint opening feels cool, and the base turns dry, powdery and gently sweet.
