Narciso Rodriguez Essence, inspired by Narciso Rodriguez Essence (2009)

Essence is mostly about musk, clean and skin-like. Iris gives it a cool, powdery, slightly rooty texture, while rose adds a pale floral tint. Benzoin rounds out the base with a resinous sweetness. The result is smooth and quiet, close to the scent of freshly moisturised skin.

About the original

Spring 2009 brought Essence, composed by Alberto Morillas of Firmenich and produced under licence by BPI, part of Shiseido. Its mirrored bottle was designed by Ross Lovegrove. Two related flankers, Essence Eau de Musc and Essence Iridescent, are separate products. Perfume databases and owners report that Essence has been withdrawn, though we have not seen an official statement.

Our version

When we make it, ours will be an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It will not be Narciso Rodriguez stock, an official relaunch or the original formula.

Who it suits

Essence is made for close range: it stays near the body and never fills a room. The powdery side is pronounced and may read as old-fashioned to some.

Is Narciso Rodriguez Essence discontinued?

Perfume databases and owners report it as discontinued, and we have not found a current official listing. The brand itself has made no announcement that we know of.

Is this Essence Eau de Musc?

No. This request refers to the original 2009 Essence. Eau de Musc and Iridescent are related flankers with their own formulas.

Can I buy it now?

No. It is out of stock and will be made once the wishlist vote target is met; voters hear from us by email when it launches.
