Narciso Rouge, inspired by Narciso Rodriguez Narciso Rouge (2018)

Narciso Rouge pairs a fresh rose with iris, the powdery, slightly rooty note taken from the iris rhizome, and sets both on the musk that runs through the whole Narciso line. That musk has a milky, skin-close texture that blurs the edges of the flowers. Underneath, tonka bean adds an almond and hay sweetness while cedar and vetiver keep the base dry and woody. Rose stays visible, but the overall impression is powder and musk rather than a bouquet.

About the original

Launched in February 2018, Narciso Rouge was a red-bottled flanker to Narciso (2014), following Narciso Poudrée from 2016. Nadège Le Garlantezec and Sonia Constant are credited with the composition, and an eau de toilette version followed in 2019. Neither the eau de parfum nor the eau de toilette appears in Narciso Rodriguez's current NARCISO range, which lists Radiante, Poudrée, Cristal and Ambrée, though some retailers still list it.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Narciso Rodriguez stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Its texture is the main appeal: close, powdery and musky, with rose for colour. Women who already wear the white Narciso and want something rosier are an obvious audience. Buyers who dislike powder or musk-heavy scents may find it too muted.

Rose opens it, fresh and dewy, with iris adding a cool, powdery edge.

The heart is musk, milky and close to the skin, tying the rose and iris together.

Tonka bean sweetens the base slightly, while cedar and vetiver give a dry, woody finish.

Is Narciso Rouge discontinued?

It no longer appears in Narciso Rodriguez's NARCISO range and its product page has been withdrawn, so it appears to have been discontinued, although we have not seen an announcement from the brand.

Which Narciso Rouge is this, the 2018 eau de parfum or the 2019 eau de toilette?

The 2018 eau de parfum. The eau de toilette came out a year later as a lighter version.

Is it very sweet?

Not especially. Tonka bean adds some sweetness in the base, but rose, iris and musk lead, so it reads powdery rather than sugary.

Is Narciso Rouge coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Narciso Rodriguez that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
