Orchid Soleil

Orchid Soleil, inspired by Tom Ford Orchid Soleil (2016)

Tom Ford pitched Orchid Soleil as the solar side of Black Orchid, and it is built around white flowers and cream. Pink pepper, bitter orange and cypress give it a spicy, resinous start. Then tuberose arrives with red spider lily, a flower more often seen than smelled, used here for a lush, waxy floral tone. The later stages grow sweeter as vanilla and chestnut cream make the base feel almost like a dessert, with patchouli adding depth.

About the original

Launched in July 2016, Orchid Soleil belonged to Tom Ford's Signature collection rather than Private Blend. It was presented as a summer, sun-themed companion to Black Orchid (2006). It is not the same as Velvet Orchid or Black Orchid Reserve, both of which remain in the range alongside Black Orchid. Orchid Soleil itself is no longer listed by Tom Ford, and recent owner reports describe it as discontinued.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Tom Ford stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Tuberose fans who also enjoy gourmand bases are the obvious match, and the brand positioned it for summer. The dry-down turns quite sweet, so it may feel cloying to lovers of green or dry florals.

Pink pepper and bitter orange give a spicy-citrus opening, with cypress adding a dry, resinous edge.

Is Orchid Soleil discontinued?

It is no longer listed on the official Tom Ford sites we checked, though we could find no statement from the brand. Black Orchid, Velvet Orchid and Black Orchid Reserve are still sold.

How does it relate to Black Orchid?

Both carry the Orchid name, but Orchid Soleil is a separate composition of tuberose and lily over vanilla and chestnut cream, launched as the summer side of Black Orchid. We also make Black Orchid.

Does it smell of chestnut?

Chestnut cream sits in the base, giving a nutty, sweet smoothness rather than a roasted note.

Is Tom Ford Orchid Soleil coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Tom Ford that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
