Vanilla Orchid Xxi Art Deco, inspired by Clive Christian Noble XXI Art Deco Vanilla Orchid (2018)

Galbanum, a plant resin with a bitter, leafy smell, opens Vanilla Orchid alongside cool hyacinth. Lily of the valley keeps the heart dewy, while the vanilla orchid note introduces a gentle floral sweetness. Lower down, vanilla and musk make a mellow base, and vetiver with sandalwood adds a faintly smoky dryness. Green at the start and vanilla at the finish, it changes character as it wears.

About the original

Clive Christian launched Vanilla Orchid in 2018 in its Noble XXI collection, which the brand linked to the Art Deco period (the earlier Noble XX was tied to Art Nouveau). At launch it was sold at Bergdorf Goodman. It is no longer listed in Clive Christian's current range, though other Noble XXI Art Deco scents such as Blonde Amber and Amberwood are still sold. No brand statement about it leaving the range has been found.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Clive Christian stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Vanilla is in the name, but the green opening makes it less gourmand than the title suggests. It suits women who like fresh florals with a rounded vanilla base. The galbanum is bitter for the first minutes, which may surprise someone expecting pure sweetness.
