Velvet Orchid Lumiere

Velvet Orchid Lumiere, inspired by Tom Ford Velvet Orchid Lumière (2016)

Honey and rum give Lumière a glossy, boozy sweetness from the start, lit by bergamot and mandarin. Beneath them, jasmine absolute and Turkish rose wrap around an orchid note. As it dries down, vanilla and labdanum take over with sandalwood, and myrrh casts a dry, resinous shadow over the sugar.

About the original

Lumière was announced in September 2016 as a flanker of Velvet Orchid (2014), in a matte dark purple version of the fluted bottle. It reached the US around November 2016 and global travel retail from December. Nothing in the launch material described it as a limited edition. Velvet Orchid itself is still sold, but Lumière is missing from Tom Ford's official sites.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Tom Ford stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Of the two Velvet Orchids, Lumière is the sweeter, more gourmand one. The rum and honey give it a sticky richness that can feel heavy next to dry or green florals.

Is this Velvet Orchid or Velvet Orchid Lumière?

This page is Lumière, the 2016 flanker. The original Velvet Orchid (2014) is still sold by Tom Ford and is a separate product in our range.

Was Velvet Orchid Lumière a limited edition?

Its launch material did not describe it as limited. It simply no longer appears in Tom Ford's range.

How sweet is Lumière?

Noticeably sweet. Honey and rum lead, and vanilla keeps the base sweet too.

Is Tom Ford Velvet Orchid Lumiere coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Tom Ford that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
