Very Irresistible Mes Envies, inspired by Givenchy Very Irrésistible Mes Envies (2015)

Rose sits at the centre, joined by peony, which adds a fresh, slightly watery petal note. Star anise is the twist: a dry, licorice-tinged spice that takes the sugar out of the flowers and lends them an aromatic edge. The result reads more grown-up than a plain rose and peony pairing. It is a compact composition with few moving parts.

About the original

Givenchy announced Mes Envies in December 2014 as a limited edition flanker to Very Irrésistible Givenchy (2003), and it went on sale in March 2015 as a 75 ml eau de toilette. Star anise is the recurring twist of the Very Irrésistible family, and this edition kept it next to rose and peony. The perfumer of the flanker is not documented; the credits sometimes given belong to the original Very Irrésistible. As a limited release it is no longer made.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Givenchy stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

The anise is what divides opinion. Rose lovers after something drier and more adult tend to like it, and it is usually thought of as a spring and summer scent, though licorice dislikers should be cautious.

No. Mes Envies is a 2015 limited edition flanker of Very Irrésistible Givenchy (2003), built around rose, peony and star anise.

What does star anise do in it?

It adds a dry, licorice-like spice that makes the rose less sweet. It is the note that divides opinion most.

Is Givenchy Very Irresistible Mes Envies coming back?

It was a limited edition. So far, we have found no announcement from Givenchy about a re-release. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
