Lilac Path, inspired by AERIN Lilac Path (2013)

Lilac Path aims at the living flower: the cool, slightly green smell of a lilac bush in bloom. Privet flower, from the common garden hedge, adds a heady, faintly honeyed note that makes the picture feel outdoors. Orange flower lends roundness without turning the composition sweet. After the first stretch it grows prim and settled, more tidy bouquet than open garden.

About the original

AERIN presented Lilac Path in late 2013 with its first fragrance collection, and Into the Gloss featured it in the spring 2014 trio, describing it as an updated 1950s gardenia-lilac accord. The brand says it was inspired by spring blooms along a garden path. Osmoz lists Firmenich as the fragrance house but no perfumer is named. Bois de Jasmin praised it as a lifelike lilac that avoids the air-freshener effect common to the note.

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not AERIN stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Spring is the season AERIN built it around, and that is where it feels most natural. It is a rich floral but not a heavy one, closer to cut flowers in a vase than to a perfumed powder. Its realism will not win over a wearer who finds lilac itself old-fashioned.

Notes: Privet Flower, Lilac, Orange Flower

Lilac opens it, cool and slightly watery, with the green breath of fresh stems. Privet flower adds a dense, hedge-in-bloom sweetness around it.

Orange flower joins as it settles and rounds the edges. From here the scent becomes quieter and more composed, a clean floral rather than a garden scene.

Does Lilac Path smell like an air freshener?

Bois de Jasmin singled it out for avoiding that effect. The lilac is pitched as a real blossom, with privet and orange flower giving it texture.

What is privet flower?

The blossom of privet, a hedge shrub common in gardens. Its small white flowers have a heady, honeyed smell in early summer.

Why do different sources list different notes?

AERIN names privet flower, lilac and orange flower. Osmoz gives a longer pyramid with galbanum, jasmine and angelica; we follow the brand's list.
