Lovely

Lovely, inspired by Sarah Jessica Parker Lovely (2005)

Lavender opens it, paired with rosewood and bergamot for a clean, slightly herbal start; some descriptions also mention an apple martini accord, a tart green-apple note. The heart is muted rather than showy, with orchid, white narcissus and a thread of patchouli. Its character comes into focus in the base, where white musk, white amber and Atlas cedar blend into a smooth, powdery skin scent.

About the original

Lovely was Sarah Jessica Parker's first fragrance, launched in 2005 with Coty's Lancaster Group. Clément Gavarry and Laurent Le Guernec of IFF are credited with the composition. Ten years after its release it was named to Allure's Best of Beauty list and marked with a limited anniversary bottle. A lighter flanker, Lovely Sheer, followed in 2016.

Who it suits

Restraint is the point of Lovely, which is usually summed up as a light floral musk. Buyers drawn to big fruity or vanilla perfumes may find it too understated.
