Sensi, inspired by Giorgio Armani Sensi (2002)

Sensi starts with lime and black locust, the tree often sold as acacia, whose blossom has a pale, honeyed scent. Within minutes the focus shifts to almond and wheat, an unusual pairing that recalls fresh bread or a plain biscuit. Jasmine sits inside that accord rather than above it, so the floral side never shouts. Benzoin, a resin with a vanilla-like sweetness, and Brazilian rosewood carry it into a silky, close finish.

About the original

Sensi arrived in 2002, created for Giorgio Armani by Alberto Morillas and Jacques Cavallier. Its heart pairs almond and wheat with jasmine. Armani's own copy presented it as gentle and silky. A flanker, Sensi White Notes, followed later. Reports say Sensi itself was later withdrawn, and no current official listing turns up.

Bring it back

Our version

When we make it, ours will be an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It will not be Giorgio Armani stock, an official relaunch or the original formula.

Who it suits

Its appeal is texture: hushed, rounded and close to the skin, more cashmere jumper than statement perfume. If almond notes read as marzipan to you, the sweetness may be too much.

Lime and black locust open it, a pale citrus-and-honey start that fades quickly.

The heart combines almond, wheat and jasmine into a smooth, grainy accord, sweet without being sugary.

Benzoin and Brazilian rosewood make up the base, resinous and vanilla-tinged with a little woodiness underneath.

Is Armani Sensi still made?

It no longer appears in Giorgio Armani's range and is reported to have been withdrawn. Armani has given no date.

Is this the original Sensi or Sensi White Notes?

The original 2002 Sensi. Sensi White Notes is a later flanker and a separate scent.
