Clandestine Clara pairs vanilla with rum, so the sweetness comes with a dark, boozy depth. Cinnamon adds a spiced bite that keeps it lively. As it settles, amber and musk take on a skin-like quality, and patchouli brings an earthy undertone. The whole composition stays within the classic oriental mould.

About the original

Clandestine Clara was released in February 2017 in the second chapter of the Portraits collection, alongside Roaring Radcliff. Launch press credited it to perfumer Sophie Labbé and described a sensual oriental of vanilla, rum, cinnamon, musk, amber and patchouli. In the Portraits story Clara is Lord George's mistress, presented as extravert and emancipated. It is no longer in Penhaligon's current range, though we have found no official statement from the brand.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Penhaligon's stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Its boozy vanilla makes it rich rather than airy. Buyers who enjoy rum or spiced vanilla accords will feel at home, while anyone wary of sweet ambers may find it heavy.

Is Penhaligon's Clandestine Clara 2017 coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Penhaligon's that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
