Tobacco Oud

Tobacco Oud, inspired by Tom Ford Tobacco Oud (2013)

Tom Ford built Tobacco Oud around oud wood resin and aromatic tobacco, including an accord of dokha, the finely cut tobacco smoked in the Gulf. In early reviews the tobacco came across more strongly than the oud, which adds a dark, slightly bitter edge. The opening has a dried-fruit, smoky amber quality, with coriander seed adding spice. Later it turns towards tonka and sandalwood, a sweeter drydown with smoke still threaded through.

About the original

Tobacco Oud launched in October 2013 in the Private Blend range, released together with Oud Fleur as part of Tom Ford's oud collection. It is usually credited to Olivier Gillotin. A flanker, Tobacco Oud Intense, followed later. Tobacco Oud no longer appears in Tom Ford's official US or UK fragrance listings and some retailers show it as unavailable, though we have found no announcement from the brand. Tobacco Vanille, another Private Blend scent, is a different fragrance.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Tom Ford stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Smoke, oud and castoreum give it a dense, animalic darkness, so it suits people already comfortable with heavy resinous scents. Tonka and amber sweeten the base, yet smoke and spice remain in front.

The start pairs tobacco with oud and coriander seed, giving a spiced, dried-fruit tone over smoky amber.

Cistus and patchouli deepen the middle over cedarwood, and castoreum adds a leathery, animal shading.

The drydown settles on tonka bean and coumarin with sandalwood beneath, a sweeter base where smoke and spice linger.

Is Tom Ford Tobacco Oud discontinued?

It no longer appears in Tom Ford's official US or UK fragrance listings, and some retailers show it as unavailable. We have found no public statement from Tom Ford, and it is still sold in some markets outside Europe.

Is Tobacco Oud the same as Tobacco Vanille?

No. Tobacco Vanille is a separate Private Blend scent, which we also make. Tobacco Oud pairs tobacco with oud, spice and leathery castoreum.

Does Tobacco Oud smell strongly of oud?

Less than the name suggests. Early reviews found the tobacco more prominent, with the oud lending a bitter, dark accent.

Is Tom Ford Tobacco Oud coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Tom Ford that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
