Kenzo, inspired by Kenzo pour Homme (1991)

Salty sea notes arrive first, lifted by bergamot and lemon and given a herbal edge by sage. Within minutes the scent heads inland: pine, juniper berries and a pinch of nutmeg bring a resinous, slightly spiced greenness. Florals sit far back. The base is woody and quiet, sandalwood and cedar with fir and a little musk, so the sea and the forest stay in balance.

About the original

Christian Mathieu created Kenzo pour Homme, launched in 1991 and long recognised by its bamboo-inspired bottle. In 2022 Kenzo repackaged it in a new design as Kenzo Homme Eau de Toilette, described by the brand as a walk by the sea along a tree-lined path. It sits alongside a newer Kenzo Homme Eau de Parfum and Intense, as well as Marine and Santal Marin flankers, which are different scents. Current batches are reported to be softer than vintage bottles.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Kenzo stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

The balance of salt air and pine gives it more body than a typical aquatic, while staying fresh. Men who dislike conifer notes, or who want a sweet base, may not take to it.

Is this the men's or the women's Kenzo?

The men's Kenzo pour Homme (1991). We also make the women's Kenzo de Kenzo, which is a different scent.

Is it the same as Kenzo Homme Eau de Toilette?

Kenzo now sells the 1991 eau de toilette under that name in a new bottle. Kenzo Homme Eau de Parfum and Intense are separate, newer fragrances.
