1888 Casamorati 1888, inspired by Xerjoff 1888 (2013)

1888 opens peppery and green, with clove lending the spice a dark, slightly medicinal bite and coriander adding a dry, seed-like note. Ylang-ylang, a tropical flower with a rich, faintly banana-like scent, takes over in the heart and rounds off the edges. Underneath, sandalwood and amber build a smooth, resinous base, and patchouli lends earthy depth. Xerjoff describes a subtle animalic accent that nods to Tuscan leather tanning, so the drydown carries a hide-like shade rather than a clean finish.

About the original

The fragrance takes its name from the Casamorati line, Xerjoff's revival of a historic Bologna perfume house, and should not be mistaken for the line as a whole, which also covers Bouquet Ideale and Mefisto, among others. Xerjoff classes it as a woody amber with mild spice. Perfume databases date it to 2013, while the brand itself gives neither a launch year nor a perfumer.

Who it suits
