Oat & Cornflower, inspired by Jo Malone London Oat & Cornflower Cologne (2018)

Oat is the core of it, milky and grainy like a bowl of porridge before the sugar goes in. Hazelnut adds a toasted, nutty roundness. Cornflower brings a faint, slightly herbal floral note that keeps the cereal from turning heavy. Vetiver dries everything out at the end, so the finish feels like straw and earth more than dessert.

About the original

Mathilde Bijaoui created Oat & Cornflower for English Fields, a March 2018 collection of five limited-edition colognes. It was sold only as a 30 ml cologne for that season. It has been described as a spicy gourmand reminiscent of spiced oatmeal, wearing longer than most Jo Malone colognes. It no longer appears in the brand's cologne range.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Jo Malone London stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Gourmand fans who find vanilla and caramel scents cloying are the best match. The texture is milky and quiet rather than bold. Despite the cornflower in the name, the overall effect is savoury and grainy, not a fresh floral.

Oat opens it immediately, milky and grain-like, with hazelnut adding a roasted edge.

Cornflower sits lightly in the middle, a pale herbal floral. The drydown leans on vetiver, which turns the cereal accord dry and earthy, like a field after harvest.

Is Jo Malone Oat & Cornflower discontinued?

Yes. It was one of five limited editions in the 2018 English Fields collection and is no longer produced.

Is it sweet?

Not especially. It is nutty and grainy, closer to porridge than to pastry, with vetiver keeping the finish dry.

Is Jo Malone London Oat & Cornflower coming back?

It was a limited edition. So far, we have found no announcement from Jo Malone London about a re-release. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
