Philosykos, inspired by Diptyque Philosykos (1996)

Philosykos smells of standing under a fig tree rather than biting into its fruit. The leaves bring a green, slightly bitter freshness, while the sap adds a milky smoothness (perfumers call this kind of note lactonic). Fig tree wood gives a pale woodiness underneath, and black pepper adds a fine, peppery spark. Throughout, it stays green and quiet rather than fruity.

About the original

Olivia Giacobetti is usually credited with Philosykos, which Diptyque released as an eau de toilette in 1996. Diptyque describes it as a portrait of the entire fig tree: the leaves, the milky note of the fruit and its white wood. An eau de parfum version also exists alongside the eau de toilette. This page refers to the original eau de toilette.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Diptyque stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Green-scent lovers, and those who find most fig perfumes too jammy, are the likeliest fans. Diptyque presents it as unisex. With no sugar to it, it will disappoint a buyer expecting ripe, syrupy fruit.

Is this based on the Philosykos eau de toilette or eau de parfum?

Our reference is the original 1996 Philosykos Eau de Toilette, although Diptyque now also sells an eau de parfum. Our own version is produced as an eau de parfum.

Does Philosykos smell like sweet fig fruit?

Hardly. It focuses on the leaves, sap and wood of the tree, so it is green and milky rather than jammy.
