Ege, inspired by Nishane Ege / Αιγαίο (2020)

Ege begins tart and green, with yuzu (a Japanese citrus somewhere between lemon and grapefruit), crushed violet leaf and a cool thread of anise. Basil and mint then turn it into a garden of fresh herbs, with green cardamom adding an aromatic spice. The official notes include no marine accord, so the sea comes through greenery and air. The base brings olibanum, a frankincense resin with a clean, peppery smoke, and licorice, which echoes the anise from the top.

About the original

Ege is the Turkish word for the Aegean Sea and Αιγαίο the Greek one, and Nishane, the Istanbul niche house, uses both in the name. It is an extrait de parfum credited to Ilias Ermenidis, and retailer data dates it to around 2020. CaFleureBon reviewed it in February 2021 and described it as a stormy, green sea.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Nishane stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Retailers present it as a Mediterranean summer and daytime scent, and the herbs feel most natural in warm weather. Anise and licorice are noticeable, so people who dislike those notes should approach with care.

It means the Aegean Sea in Turkish; Αιγαίο is the Greek word for the same sea.

Does Ege smell of licorice?

Yes, anise opens it and licorice sits in the base, though basil, mint and yuzu keep it green rather than sweet.
