Russian Leather, inspired by Memo Paris Russian Leather (2016)

Russian Leather is herb-led from the start: mint gives a cool, camphorous lift, with basil and rosemary close behind. Pine and cedar leaf follow with a resinous, coniferous freshness, and lavandin, a hardy lavender hybrid, ties it to the fougère tradition. Fougère means a fern-like accord built around lavender and tonka, and here tonka sits in the base beside guaiac wood and patchouli, around the leather accord. The leather is noticeable but stays wrapped in herbs.

About the original

Memo announced Russian Leather in August 2016 as a unisex addition to Cuirs Nomades, with sales starting that October. One database credits Aliénor Massenet as perfumer, though Memo's announcement did not name one. Despite the name, it is separate from the Cuir de Russie and Russian Leather scents made by other houses.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Memo Paris stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Herb lovers and fans of classic fougères are the best fit; the leather gives it weight without turning it dark. The camphorous mint is prominent and may feel medicinal to some. Overall it reads green rather than sweet.

Mint and basil open cool and aromatic, with rosemary and coriander adding a dry, spicy herbal note.

Pine, cypress and cedar leaf give the middle a coniferous freshness, with lavandin and clary sage in support.

The leather accord emerges in the base, framed by guaiac wood and patchouli, lightly sweetened by tonka and spiced with nutmeg.

Is Memo Russian Leather still made?

Memo still sells it on its US store, although it no longer appears in the main European range.

Is this the same as other Russian Leather or Cuir de Russie perfumes?

No. This page is Memo Paris Russian Leather from 2016. Several other houses have scents called Cuir de Russie or Russian Leather, and they are different compositions.
