Lamar, inspired by Kajal Lamar (2020)

Lamar opens with ripe pineapple, red berries and apple, kept from tasting like fruit juice by cardamom and coriander. Two roses, Bulgarian and Turkish, form the heart alongside magnolia and jasmine sambac. Underneath, toffee and ambroxan lend a golden sweetness, with cedarwood and oakmoss adding a drier, mossy edge. The fruit stays present but the overall effect is polished rather than candied.

About the original

Mark Buxton created Lamar for Kajal Perfumes Paris, and CaFleureBon reviewed it as new for 2020. The name means liquid gold in Arabic, and the scent belongs to the house's Gold Collection. CaFleureBon called it fruit-centric but urbane, balancing tart fruit against a honeyed, vanillic base. Two later flankers, Lamar Noir and Lamar Caviar, are separate fragrances.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Kajal stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Evening wear is where one retailer places it, and its density supports that. Toffee, fruit and rose make it rich and fairly sweet, which may be too much for anyone who prefers fresh or understated scents.
