Oajan, inspired by Parfums de Marly Oajan (2013)

Oajan is all honey and spice from the first moment, with cinnamon giving the honey a baked, toasted feel and osmanthus adding a faintly apricot-like floral note. Beneath that sits a dense resin layer: amber, labdanum (a sticky rockrose resin with a leathery sweetness) and benzoin, which smells of vanilla and balsam. Vanilla and tonka bean deepen the sweetness as it settles, while patchouli and davana, a herb with a boozy, dried-fruit tone, keep it from going flat.

About the original

Oajan sits in the Parfums de Marly men's collection and is sold by the brand as a masculine fragrance. Database records date its launch to 2013, and some retailers still list it under the 'Royal Essence' label from the collection it first belonged to. No perfumer is publicly credited in the sources we consulted.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Parfums de Marly stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Sweetness is the point here: honey, vanilla and tonka are prominent throughout, so it will feel cloying to someone who prefers dry woods or fresh citrus. Its rich, ambery profile is generally treated as a cold-weather scent.
