Palo Santo, inspired by Carner Barcelona Palo Santo (2015)

Caramel and a rum accord make the first impression boozy and sugared. Warm milk then softens everything, giving a rounded, almost custard-like texture, and guaiac wood adds a faint smokiness. Palo santo, a South American wood whose aroma is resinous, slightly citrusy and incense-like, emerges in the base with Moroccan cedarwood, leaving a creamy woody drydown.

About the original

Carner Barcelona, the independent Barcelona house founded by Sara Carner, released Palo Santo in 2015. Reviewers at the time found it sweet and gourmand at first, with a creamy, lightly smoky woody drydown; one called it cloying. The current official note list is shorter than the one published in 2015, with caramel replacing davana and no tonka, vetiver or amyris. Many brands sell palo santo products, and this page refers specifically to the Carner Barcelona eau de parfum.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Carner Barcelona stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Gourmand fans who want something woodier than vanilla or praline will find a good balance here. It is sweet, especially at first, and one 2015 review found it cloying, so buyers who avoid sugary scents should weigh that.
