Layton Exclusif, inspired by Parfums de Marly Layton Exclusif (2017)

Layton Exclusif opens with a quick spark of bergamot, then pink peppercorn and cardamom give it a cool, aromatic spice. Lavender and lavandin, its more camphorous cousin, sit with geranium in the heart and hold a fougère outline in place. That clean structure does not last long: oud, a dense resinous wood with a slightly smoky, animal edge, moves in with sandalwood, patchouli and leather. What remains is dark and leathery, with only a trace of the freshness at the start.

About the original

Parfums de Marly launched Layton Exclusif in 2017 as a Parfum-concentration variation of Layton, its 2016 Eau de Parfum. The brand files it among its Exclusifs, sells it as a masculine fragrance and describes it as intense. Its composition is usually credited to Hamid Merati-Kashani. Published note lists vary a great deal, and the official pyramid is much shorter than some database versions.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Parfums de Marly stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Leather and oud dominate after the opening, so this is a better match for lovers of dark woods than for anyone wanting the standard Layton's profile. Databases also pick up an animalic, slightly powdery facet, which can feel heavy if you are used to clean aromatic scents.

This page is inspired by Layton Exclusif, the 2017 Parfum. The original Layton Eau de Parfum (2016) is a different and much less dark composition, which we also make.

Does Layton Exclusif smell of oud?

Yes. Oud sits in the base with leather and sandalwood, and it becomes the main impression once the lavender heart fades.

Is Layton Exclusif unisex?

No. Parfums de Marly lists it in its men's collection as a masculine fragrance.
