Libre Le Parfum, inspired by Yves Saint Laurent Libre Le Parfum (2022)

Libre Le Parfum keeps the lavender and orange blossom pairing of the original Libre but surrounds it with spice and honey. Ginger and saffron give the top a heated, peppery feel, with mandarin and bergamot for lift. Once the spice settles, lavender reads herbal and slightly floral against the orange blossom. The base is where it differs most: honey, bourbon vanilla and tonka, held in check by a thread of vetiver.

About the original

Yves Saint Laurent launched Libre Le Parfum in 2022 as the parfum-strength member of the Libre line, which began with the 2019 Eau de Parfum. Anne Flipo and Carlos Benaïm are credited with the composition. YSL describes it as a spicier reinterpretation of Libre, naming French lavender, Moroccan orange blossom absolute and a saffron accord as its main materials. It is distinct from Libre Intense and Libre L'Absolu Platine, which we also make.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Yves Saint Laurent stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Anyone who wears Libre Eau de Parfum and wants a denser, sweeter take will notice the extra honey and vanilla here. It is warm and dense, so a light hand is wise, and people who dislike honeyed scents may prefer the original Libre.

The first impression is spice: ginger and saffron with mandarin and bergamot keeping it from feeling heavy.

At the centre, lavender and orange blossom sit side by side, one herbal, the other floral and slightly honeyed, the same contrast that defines the whole Libre line.

Later it turns to honey, bourbon vanilla and tonka bean, with vetiver adding a dry, rooty edge underneath.

How is Libre Le Parfum different from Libre Eau de Parfum?

It keeps the lavender and orange blossom core but adds ginger and saffron at the top and a much sweeter honey, vanilla and tonka base.

Is it very sweet?

Sweeter than the original Libre, mainly from honey and vanilla in the base. The lavender and vetiver stop it becoming purely gourmand.

Where does the spice in Libre Le Parfum come from?

YSL names a saffron accord as one of its key materials, and ginger joins it in the opening. Both fade as the honey and vanilla base takes over.
