Loubiraj, inspired by Christian Louboutin Loubiraj (2020)

Loubiraj puts suede at the centre: the smooth, slightly animalic smell of brushed hide rather than a biker jacket. Pink pepper gives the start a rosy, prickly tingle, and ylang-ylang, a creamy tropical flower, adds a golden floral glow. Rose and orris temper that glow, so the leather reads as refined rather than rough. Cedarwood, benzoin and musk dry it down to a resinous, skin-like texture.

About the original

Daphné Bugey composed Loubiraj as one of seven eaux de parfum in Christian Louboutin's Loubiworld collection, launched in autumn 2020. The house classifies it as Leather Woody and describes the leather as sunny and feline. Like the rest of the collection, it is presented as unisex, although we list it among our women's scents. Loubirouge, from the same launch, takes a spicier, ambery route.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Christian Louboutin stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Leather lovers who find classic leather scents too dry may like how the florals round this one off. The hide-like drydown may feel too animalic for a buyer hoping for clean musk.

Notes: Suede Leather, Pink Pepper, Cedarwood

Pink pepper opens it with a dry, peppery spice over the first suggestion of suede.

In the heart, ylang-ylang, centifolia rose and orris wrap around the leather so it feels supple and lightly powdered.

Cedarwood carries the base with benzoin and musk, giving a resinous, hide-like finish.

Is Loubiraj for women or men?

Christian Louboutin presents the whole Loubiworld collection as unisex. We list it with our women's scents.

How is Loubiraj different from Loubirouge?

Both come from the 2020 Loubiworld collection. Loubiraj is a floral suede over cedar, while Loubirouge leads with cardamom and moves into balsams, vanilla and iris.
