Alive Eau De Parfum, inspired by BOSS Alive Eau de Parfum (2020)

Fruit and spice arrive together: crisp apple, dark plum and tart blackcurrant, with cinnamon and a little vanilla rounding the edges. Jasmine sambac, the fuller, slightly fruity jasmine grown in India, opens up in the heart, and thyme draws a dry herbal line through it. Underneath, cedar, sandalwood and olive wood make the base firm and woody, which stops the sweeter notes from taking over.

About the original

Annick Menardo composed Alive, released in February 2020 as a new women's line for Hugo Boss under its licence with Coty. The launch campaign brought together Emma Roberts, Laura Harrier, Bruna Marquezine and Chloe Bennet. The eau de parfum is the first of the line; the Intense, Parfum, Absolu and Sparkling Lavender versions came later as separate fragrances.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Hugo Boss stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

A wearer who reaches for fruity scents but tires of candy-like ones is the natural fit. Cinnamon and vanilla add sweetness and spice, though the cedar and sandalwood keep the finish drier than the opening suggests.

The opening is a cluster of apple, plum and blackcurrant, spiced with cinnamon and touched with Madagascan vanilla.

Jasmine sambac sits at the centre, with thyme lending an aromatic note that cuts through the fruit.

Chinese cedarwood, sandalwood and olive wood carry the drydown, a woody base rather than a musky one.

Which Boss Alive is this based on?

The original BOSS Alive Eau de Parfum from 2020. Alive Intense, Alive Parfum and Alive Absolu are later versions with their own compositions.

Is Boss Alive sweet?

There is sweetness from plum, cinnamon and vanilla, but cedar, sandalwood and olive wood give it a woody base, so it is less sugary than many fruity perfumes.
