Black Potion

Black Potion, inspired by Dsquared2 Potion Royal Black (2013)

Incense sets the tone from the first spray, with pimento adding heat and bergamot only briefly lifting the top. A rose then appears, but wrapped in leather and tobacco so it reads dark and masculine rather than romantic. The base is guaiac wood, which has a smoky, almost tar-like quality, with cashmere wood and musk making it dense and smooth.

About the original

No Dsquared2 fragrance is officially called Black Potion, and the name most likely refers to Potion Royal Black, a 2013 flanker of the original Potion (2011). Daphne Bugey is credited as the perfumer, and it was released the same year as Potion Blue Cadet. It has been withdrawn, according to reports, and retailers show it as unavailable.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Dsquared2 stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Smoke is the main thing to know about it. Incense, leather and guaiac wood make it dense and dark, best on autumn and winter evenings, and anyone who dislikes smoky or leathery scents should avoid it.

Not quite. Our Black Potion is based on Potion Royal Black (2013), a darker flanker of the original Potion from 2011, which we also make as a separate scent.

Is Potion Royal Black discontinued?

It has been withdrawn, according to reports. We have not been able to check Dsquared2's official range.

Is it smoky?

Yes. Incense and guaiac wood give it a clear smoky character, with leather adding to the darkness.

Is Dsquared2 Black Potion coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Dsquared2 that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
