Elements, inspired by Boss Elements (1994)

Aldehydes, materials that smell clean and waxy like freshly pressed linen, give Elements a fizzy, slightly soapy lift alongside lavender, lemon and bergamot. Basil and artemisia, a bitter wormwood-like herb, make the top distinctly green. The heart sets violet, clary sage, caraway and coriander against rose and jasmine. Leather, sandalwood and oakmoss then lead it into a dry, powdery finish.

About the original

Boss Elements dates from 1994, though one database gives 1993, and a flanker called Boss Elements Aqua followed in the mid-1990s. Retail descriptions summed it up as spicy, clean and complex with a touch of leather. It is unrelated to Hugo Element, a later scent from 2009. Elements is no longer listed by Hugo Boss and is reported to have been discontinued in the 2000s, so most bottles still around are older stock.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Hugo Boss stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Its style belongs to pre-2000 men's perfumery: aldehydic, mossy and powdery rather than fresh-blue or sweet. Retail copy calls it spicy, clean and complex, and the leather keeps it from feeling purely herbal. Powder and oakmoss can read as old-fashioned on first wear.

It no longer appears in Hugo Boss's range and was withdrawn in the 2000s, according to reports.

Is this the same as Hugo Element?

No. This page refers to Boss Elements (1994), an aromatic scent with lavender and oakmoss. Hugo Element (2009) and Boss Elements Aqua are different fragrances.

Is Hugo Boss Elements coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Hugo Boss that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
