Luna Rossa Sport Prada, inspired by Prada Luna Rossa Sport (2015)

Fresh ginger and juniper berries, the gin botanical with a piney, peppery snap, make up the first impression. Lavender runs alongside and stays through to the end. The second half is noticeably sweeter than the original Luna Rossa, as tonka bean, with its almond and hay facets, joins vanilla in a smooth base. It moves from spiced and zesty to rounded and gently gourmand.

About the original

Daniela Andrier composed Luna Rossa Sport, launched in 2015 as a flanker of Luna Rossa (2012), following Luna Rossa Extreme (2013). Its theme drew on competitive sailing, the world behind the Luna Rossa name. It should not be mixed up with Luna Rossa Eau Sport (2016), a lighter citrus flanker. Prada's site now shows only the Carbon, Black and Ocean versions of the line, and the Sport appears to have been withdrawn from it, though discounters still carry it.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Prada stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Its sweetness is the deciding factor. Fans of tonka and vanilla in men's scents will find it approachable, whereas a buyer expecting the drier profile of the 2012 Luna Rossa may find it too sugary.

Is Luna Rossa Sport discontinued?

It no longer appears on Prada's own website and is reported to be withdrawn, although discounters still sell it. Prada has not confirmed it publicly.

Luna Rossa Sport, the 2015 ginger, juniper and tonka scent. Eau Sport (2016) is a separate, lighter citrus flanker.

Is it sweeter than the original Luna Rossa?

Yes. Tonka bean and vanilla make the base noticeably sweeter than the 2012 Luna Rossa.

Is Luna Rossa Sport Prada coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Prada that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
