Pure Pacific, inspired by Davidoff Cool Water Pure Pacific for Him (2012)

Citrus does most of the talking at first, with lemon and grapefruit giving a tart, slightly bitter edge and mandarin rounding it off. Mint and sage then pull the scent towards the herb garden, while basil adds a green, peppery note. Ginger flower adds a fresh, lightly spicy floral touch. The base stays light, a dry mix of sandalwood, juniper and vetiver that never turns heavy.

About the original

Davidoff released Pure Pacific for Him in 2012 as one of two limited summer editions of Cool Water, the 1988 men's original. Philippe Bousseton is usually credited with the composition, and the stated theme was the energy of the Pacific Ocean. It came as a 125 ml eau de toilette alongside Cool Water Pure Pacific for Her, which is a different scent. As a seasonal limited edition, it is no longer produced.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Davidoff stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Men who reach for citrus and herbs in hot weather will find it easy to wear, since it was conceived as a summer daytime edition. The woods underneath stay light, so anyone hoping for a rich, sweet base may find it too slight.

Lemon, grapefruit and mandarin open together, zesty and a little bitter from the grapefruit peel.

Mint and sage soon take over, joined by basil and the clean floral lift of ginger flower. The effect is green and cooling rather than sweet.

Sandalwood, juniper and vetiver form a dry, lightly woody finish, with juniper adding a gin-like crispness.

Is this Pure Pacific for Him or for Her?

For Him. Davidoff issued both in 2012 as separate scents; this page is the men's citrus-aromatic version.

How does it differ from the original Cool Water?

Pure Pacific leans on citrus and fresh herbs such as mint, sage and basil, over light woods and vetiver. The 1988 Cool Water is a separate fragrance.

Is Davidoff Pure Pacific coming back?

It was a limited edition. So far, we have found no announcement from Davidoff about a re-release. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
