Solo, inspired by Loewe Solo Loewe (2004)

Mandarin and lemon carry the first spray, but guava gives the citrus a rounder, faintly tropical edge. Herbs follow quickly: lavender, rosemary and thyme, with a cool flicker of mint. Loewe itself sets cumin against the fruit, and that dry, slightly savoury spice is what stops Solo from reading as a plain cologne. Underneath, musk and amber with a little vanilla and oakmoss give the base weight without much sweetness.

About the original

Solo Loewe launched in 2004 as the first scent in Loewe's men's Solo line. Fragrance databases credit it to Carlos Benaim, Laurent Le Guernec and Emilio Valeros, although Loewe has not confirmed this. The name now covers a long run of flankers, among them Cedro (2015) and Elixir (2025), so this page refers specifically to the 2004 eau de toilette. Loewe currently presents it in a translucent burnt-amber bottle as part of its Botanical Rainbow series.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Loewe stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Men who find classic citrus colognes thin may like the spice and fruit Solo adds. Its cumin and caraway lend a savoury undertone that not everyone enjoys, while the vanilla in the base stays subtle rather than sweet.

Citrus leads, with mandarin and bergamot sharpened by lemon. Guava rounds off the edges, and rosemary and thyme pull the top towards the herbal.

In the heart, pink pepper and nutmeg add spice, with cinnamon in the background and anise and caraway giving a faint seed-like, liquorice note. Aldehydes keep it airy.

The drydown rests on woody notes, musk and amber, edged with oakmoss and a touch of vanilla.

This page is the original Solo Loewe from 2004. Solo Cedro (2015) is a cedar-led flanker, which we also make.

Does Solo smell of cumin?

Loewe's own description pairs guava with cumin, musk and Italian mandarin, so a dry spice sits beneath the citrus. It is part of what separates Solo from simpler citrus scents.
