Ferre Man

Ferre Man, inspired by Gianfranco Ferré for Man (1986)

Lemon, bergamot and mandarin open it with a green, leafy edge. Lavender and sage soon bring the aromatic core, and orris root, the dried iris rhizome, gives a powdery, slightly earthy note. Carnation and cardamom add spice without heat. The drydown leans on oakmoss and tobacco, a combination that reads distinctly of its decade.

About the original

Gianfranco Ferré for Man, also sold as Ferré Homme, came out in 1986 as the designer's first men's fragrance. The brand placed it in the citrus, woody, chypre group. Later men's releases included Ferre for Men in 2006 and Ferre Black. The official Ferré website now sells a small range without it, so it is no longer listed by Gianfranco Ferré.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Gianfranco Ferré stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

It is dry and groomed, with the citrus top giving way to moss and tobacco. Next to today's sweet, ambery men's releases, it can come across as dry and old-fashioned.

Is Gianfranco Ferré for Man discontinued?

It is no longer listed on the official Ferré fragrance range, and reports indicate it has been withdrawn.
