Notte Pour Homme, inspired by Bvlgari BLV Notte Pour Homme (2004)

The lavender here is powdery rather than herbal, and it is quickly joined by dark chocolate that smells bitter and cocoa-dry, nothing like dessert. Cardamom gives the pairing an aromatic lift, and touches of anise and galangal stop it feeling plush. Once settled, it changes very little, and that steadiness is part of its composed character. Cedar and oak give the finish a plain woody frame.

About the original

BLV Notte Pour Homme appeared in 2004 as the men's night version of BLV Pour Homme, with Alberto Morillas as perfumer. Its women's counterpart, BLV Notte Pour Femme, also uses dark chocolate but builds around iris and a vodka note. The men's scent is absent from Bvlgari's current lines, which centre on Bvlgari Man, Pour Homme and Le Gemme, and it is listed as discontinued by resellers.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Bvlgari stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Black tie, a late dinner, a cold night out: this is where it sits most naturally. It is gentle and fairly linear, so a man wanting a dramatic or fresh scent may find it too reserved, and some wearers find the powderiness excessive.

Lavender leads, with bergamot, neroli, mint and a little pomegranate giving the first minutes some lift.

Dark chocolate and cardamom make up the heart, joined by anise, galangal and tobacco blossom. The chocolate stays dry and slightly bitter.

Cedar and oak close it with a clean, woody calm.

Does it smell like chocolate?

Yes, but dry dark chocolate, closer to cocoa powder than to sweets, tempered by lavender and cardamom.

How is it different from BLV Notte Pour Femme?

The women's version centres on iris and vodka with incense in the base. The men's is lavender and chocolate over cedar and oak. We make both.

Does Bvlgari still sell BLV Notte Pour Homme?

It no longer appears in Bvlgari's men's lines and it is listed as discontinued in fragrance references.

Is Bvlgari Notte Pour Homme coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Bvlgari that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
