Hypnose Homme, inspired by Lancôme Hypnôse Homme (2007)

Lavender is the subject, but Hypnôse Homme approaches it from a cool angle: mint, bergamot and Calabrian mandarin, with Chinese cardamom seed adding a spiced freshness. Provençal lavender then takes the centre, smooth and slightly sweet rather than herbal and barbershop-like. Amber and Indonesian patchouli deepen the base, and musk gives it a faintly powdery finish. Launch material described it as 'a fresh, amber-based lavender'.

About the original

Maurice Roucel of Symrise composed Hypnôse Homme, which arrived in Europe in March 2007 and in the US a couple of months later as an eau de toilette in 50 and 75 ml. It was the masculine side of Hypnôse, whose women's eau de parfum (2005) Lancôme still sells. Two flankers followed: Hypnôse Homme Fresh in 2008 and a limited Hypnôse Homme Cologne in 2009. The men's eau de toilette no longer appears on Lancôme's French, UK or US sites, none of which has a men's fragrance section.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Lancôme stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Fougère fans who want a rounder, more ambery take than the classic shaving-soap style are the clearest match. Its amber base leans powdery and a touch sweet, less suited to someone after a crisp, aquatic kind of freshness.

Is Lancôme Hypnôse Homme discontinued?

It no longer appears in Lancôme's fragrance range, and several retailers list it as sold out, though we have found no official statement from Lancôme.

Is this the men's or the women's Hypnôse?

The men's Hypnôse Homme eau de toilette from 2007. The women's Hypnôse eau de parfum (2005) is a different fragrance that Lancôme still sells, and we make it too.

Is this Hypnôse Homme Fresh or Cologne?

Neither. This is the original 2007 Hypnôse Homme; Fresh (2008) and Cologne (2009) were later flankers.

Is Lancôme Hypnose Homme coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Lancôme that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
