Eros, inspired by Versace Eros Eau de Toilette (2012)

Eros opens cool and sweet at the same time, with mint and green apple over a squeeze of lemon. Tonka bean and ambroxan (a clean, ambery molecule with a faintly salty, skin-like smell) take over in the heart. Geranium gives it the herbal, slightly rosy backbone of a fougère. The drydown is mostly Madagascar vanilla, kept from turning sugary by cedar and vetiver.

About the original

Versace launched Eros in 2012; Aurélien Guichard is generally named as its perfumer, though Versace's own pages do not credit one. The name refers to the Greek god of love, and the blue bottle carries the house's Medusa head and Greca pattern. The line has since grown to include an eau de parfum, a parfum, Eros Flame and Eros Energy. Versace's current note list differs slightly from the launch one, adding patchouli and sandalwood, though the brand has not said whether the formula itself changed.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Versace stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Sweetness is the main thing to know about Eros: the mint and apple keep the start lively, but vanilla dominates later on. It reads as a richer scent than the cool blue bottle suggests, and a buyer looking for a crisp citrus should look elsewhere.

The original 2012 eau de toilette. Versace also sells a later Eros Eau de Parfum, which is a different version.
